Presentation title: How can development cooperation reduce plastics pollution: Outlining a new conceptual framework
David is a Research Associate with University of Leeds and an independent advisor. His research and advisory work focus on the nexus of science, policy and finance in the context of plastics pollution.
David provides research support and strategic advice to organisations across the globe, including the World Bank, UN agencies, OECD, national and local governments, and business. Over more than twenty years as a practitioner, he has successfully delivered a wide range of complex projects in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, South America, North America and Asia. He has also conducted a number of key global studies including:
- A global analysis of two decades of development finance in solid waste management, revealing currently insufficient resources for tackling plastic pollution (see this link).
- Key author of the World Bank’s Bridging the Institutional Gap in Solid Waste Management report (see this link),
- Lead author of the OECD’s Improving Markets for Recycled Plastics – Trends, Prospects and Policy Responses (2018), and a review of international development cooperation in the solid waste sector (for the International Solid Waste Association).
- On behalf of the UN Basel Convention Secretariat, led a team that developed guidance and a policy toolkit to help national governments conduct plastic waste inventories and develop strategies for tackling plastic pollution.
